ABOUT US

Busy connecting people with jobs and jobs with people!

Are you searching for top-notch staffing services in Winston Salem, NC, and the surrounding areas? Look no further! At AtWork Winston Salem, we are dedicated to connecting businesses and the best talent in the Triad, Ardmore, Union Cross, Kernesville, and all of Forsyth County.

Our office is conveniently located near the Hanes Mall, Stratford Road, Westgate Center Drive, and Healy Drive. Stop by soon to apply for a job or hire talent with us! Our goal is also to help companies grow by finding the right people.

If you are looking for just a day labor agency or a place to just work for a few days and then move on, then our agency may not be right for you. If you are looking for a job to earn some extra cash and then quit, then we are not the right place for you. However, if you are looking to work with a company where you are making a difference, helping others, and providing a service, then we’d be glad to work with you.

We will not promise to find you easy jobs. In fact, we pride ourselves on working for businesses that aren’t always in the limelight but that make a difference.

The type of jobs and industries that we work with are very diverse. We place production workers, forklift operators, warehouse workers, machine operators, retail workers, cashiers, donation attendants, and general laborers. We also place engineers, production supervisors, maintenance technicians, operations managers, and other skilled and professional positions.

And that’s not all!

We also place legal assistants, paralegals, attorneys, and administrative positions.

If you have a position that’s not very common and that’s hard to fill, don’t worry. You can still reach out to us. Unlike other agencies, we aren’t afraid to tackle new projects, we won’t be surprised by the type of jobs you ask us to fill, and we’ve probably had requests that were harder to fill than what you need.

No worries if the job you need to fill is hard. This is what we do.

Job Seeker FAQs

What do I need to apply?

We have made the application process as easy as possible. You can apply to specific jobs directly on our website, you can submit a “general application,” or you can apply on another job board where you can see our positions, including: Indeed, SimplyHired, or LinkedIn, just to name a few.

Can you guarantee me a job?

No, we don’t guarantee a job until we are able to meet with you and learn about you. We’ll want to meet you and talk with you first to see if we can be of help. We put hundreds of people to work every year, but we want to meet with you first to see that we have something that would be a good fit for you. It would be a disservice to put you to work somewhere that you wouldn’t like or that wouldn’t be a good fit for you.

What is the best way for me to get a job?

The best way to help us help you is to provide us either a resume or to complete the application and include where you worked. Don’t worry: we don’t want a fancy resume or anything extravagant. We just want to be able to see what work experience you’ve had and what skills you’ve developed. We want to be able to see that you have worked somewhere consistently, that you have experience that is similar, and that your skills can translate over to the position well. This is part of the vetting process, which we’ve found to be very important. We want to be able to tell whether you would enjoy the position and whether it will be a good fit. That’s why the conversations with our recruiters are so important.

I've been in school and haven't had a job, so how do I put together a resume or application?

We’ve found work for plenty of people who had their first job. If you’ve never had a job, you still may have volunteered, studied something in school, had hobbies, or had some favorite subjects in school. For example, someone who has a hobby fixing cars in the garage and milking cows is often going to enjoy different work from someone who enjoys playing Scrabble, doing crossword puzzles, and writing short stories.

Do you have entry-level jobs?

Yes, but since they are entry level they don’t usually pay as much, and they aren’t always what people consider to be dream jobs. However, most of our entry level positions have plenty of room for growth, pay raises, advancement, and promotions. We’ve had many entry-level workers move up the ladder quickly and see their income rise quickly.

Do you keep some of the money we earned?

No. We are paid by the company. You will see deductions on your check for state and income taxes, garnishments (if there are any), and insurance deductions (if you have any.) But we don’t take any money from our employees.

Do you work with people who have felonies?

Yes, we’ve placed many people who have felonies. We work with many different companies, and their requirements regarding felony convictions vary greatly based on the position. We work hard to find work for candidates with convictions, and some of our best employees have had felonies. We believe in offering second chances, while at the same time we respect the wishes of our client companies who have stricter guidelines.

I have been incarcerated and haven't had a job in years. How can I put together a resume?

If you have been incarcerated, then chances are that you were assigned a job while incarcerated. We would suggest listing that job, and include what your duties were, what you were responsible for, and what you were most proud of. Also, if you were assigned a job, most likely you weren’t allowed to not show to work or to call in unavailable. You may have had a stronger work history than someone who was not incarcerated. Also, many people who are incarcerated join self-help groups to improve their skills or social interaction. Be sure to include that also. You may have learned some life lessons that others who were not incarcerated didn’t learn. Emphasize what you learned and use those to your advantage.

How often do I get paid and when?

We pay weekly on Fridays using direct deposit. You will always be paid for the week before. Payroll is turned in to us on Mondays for the previous week. We send that in on Wednesdays and your pay is released no later than noon on Friday.

Can a temporary position become a full-time position?

Quite often, “yes.” Some positions that you find through a staffing agency can turn into a permanent job if your skills and other qualifications are a good fit for the company. This is especially true if an organization is using a staffing agency to try out candidates in an attempt to fill a full-time job opening.

Employer FAQs

You only place temporary workers?

Our focus is on finding jobs for people long term, so temporary only is not our main focus. We place temporary, temp-to-hire, and we place direct hire positions. We like to have a few temporary jobs, so that some of our candidates can earn paychecks while they are waiting on their long-term, “career” assignments, but temporary only is a small fraction of what we do. Most of our jobs are direct hire or temp-to-hire.

I can post a position on Indeed myself, so why should I use a recruiting or staffing agency?

You can choose to go the do-it-yourself (DIY) route, and that can work in certain cases. The difference is similar to someone who needs plumbing work and chose to buy some Drano and go the DIY route versus hiring a professional plumbing company to do it instead. Either option can be the right decision depending on your situation. Sourcing and finding candidates is a skillset and is a combination of art and science. The process of finding employees is extremely time consuming, and it takes skill and experience. Also, as a recruiting agency, we’ve built a database of tens of thousands of people. We are looking at about 800-1,000 resumes a week, holding conversations daily in person or via phone with candidates. So our network is bigger than that of most other companies. Indeed has only about 50% of the market share for job boards. That’s a lot, but if you only post on Indeed, then you’re missing out on 50% of candidates. You can’t afford to overlook 50% of the candidates in the market today.

What skills are required in finding Candidates?

Here are some skills involved in recruiting and finding employees:

  • Writing

  • Listening

  • Targeted advertising

  • Marketing

  • Employment law

  • Editing

  • Body language and nonverbal communication

  • Communication

  • Data analytics

  • Ability to ask good questions

  • Ability to “close” a deal

  • Relationship building

  • Emotional intelligence

  • Data management and storage

  • Organizational skills

  • Boolean search

  • Computer knowledge

  • Knowledge of applicant tracking software

Is AtWork locally owned?

Yes. We are locally owned and operated. At the same time, we are part of a much broader network and part of the AtWork Personnel family. We are franchise based, which is the best of both worlds: we don’t have to reinvent the wheel, yet we have local ownership in each of our markets. And although we are locally owned, we have years of experience in the corporate world and understand when structure and processes are helpful versus when they are cumbersome and unnecessary.

What do you need from us?

We will work hard on finding you employees or candidates. There is no financial obligation for the client until we actually find the employees and they start work. This takes the liability and the financial and time risk away from the client. With that in mind, we ask that when we communicate with you, whether via phone or email, that you answer us promptly. We prefer the same day, and at the least within 24 hours. Every candidate we send to you represents a significant amount of time, resources, effort, and money that we spent. Sometimes a good candidate is not going to be available long, and time is of the essence.
